Add a social account to Hootsuite
Connecting your social accounts to Hootsuite helps you save time managing your social media. Instead of signing in to each social network individually, you can manage activity for all of them in one place.
Each Hootsuite plan type allows you to add a different number of social accounts. Generally, everyone has one social profile per account when they sign up with a social network, like Twitter or Instagram. Facebook and LinkedIn are a bit different. With those social networks, you could have access to multiple account types, including your personal profile, as well as Pages or groups. Pages and groups are also considered account types in Hootsuite.
Supported account types
The following account types are supported in Hootsuite and count toward your account limit:

- LinkedIn groups and Facebook gray accounts aren’t supported. Gray accounts are an old type of account used to manage a Facebook Page without a personal Facebook account.
- We currently don't support any integrations for Tiktok, Nextdoor, or Xing.
To integrate a social account not listed here, like WeChat or Sina Weibo, check if it’s available through the Hootsuite app directory.

If you reach your plan limit when adding social accounts, you’ll have to remove one to make room for another. See Remove a social account.
Important information for Impact customers
If you're using Hootsuite and Hootsuite Impact, you need to add your social accounts to both platforms. See Connect an organic or paid social account to Impact for those instructions.
Why have I hit a limit even though my plan type supports more?
If you’re a team member, make sure you’re adding accounts to the organization, instead of for your private use. If you’ve recently upgraded to a Business plan, your limit will be updated after you receive the first email from the Hootsuite customer success team.
The account I’m trying to add is currently owned by another user
Social accounts can only be connected to one Hootsuite account at a time. If the account you’re trying to add is already connected to another Hootsuite account, you'll be asked if you want to Take Ownership of the account.
- If the account is connected under someone’s social accounts for personal use, you’ll be able to take ownership of it, which removes the account from their Hootsuite account and adds it to yours.
- If the account is connected under an organization, it can’t be claimed. You’ll either see a message displaying the name of the organization that currently owns the account, or when you try to take ownership you’ll see, “You don’t have access to this social network”.
If you’re a team member in an organization, you should already have access to the accounts in the organization, so you don’t need to add them to your own dashboard. Select Create new post to see which social accounts you already have access to via the organization.
