Troubleshoot error messages

This article includes common error messages and solutions.

“X API is busy.”

Try Reconnect a social account. If you continue to experience issues, please contact our support team.
Trying to interact with another X user“User has been suspended.”Not available. Suspended users cannot interact with other X users.
Trying to use your X account“Your account is suspended and is not permitted to access this feature.”Not available. X has suspended your account.
Attempting to use a number or symbol at the beginning of an X list title“The list failed validation: A list's name must start with a letter.”The first character of an X list title must be a letter. While you can include numbers after the first letter, you should avoid using symbols.
Attempting to access your Direct Message inbox“This application is not allowed to access or delete your direct messages.”Reconnect your X account. See Reconnect a social account for instructions.
Attempting to “favorite” a post in a stream“You have already favorited this post.”Refresh your browser. Then try clearing your cache. For more information, see Troubleshoot display issues.
Attempting to “send” or “reply to” a direct message“You cannot send messages to users who are not following you.”You can only send direct messages to users who follow you, unless they have direct messages from anyone enabled in their X account settings.
Attempting to “follow” an X user“You've already requested to follow (username)s.”You are already “following” this user. Try refreshing your browser. See Troubleshoot display issues for more things you can try.

If the user has a protected profile, you must wait for their approval before you can view their content.

Attempting to “follow” an X user“You are unable to follow more people at this time.”X technically allows you to follow up to 1,000 users per day. See X's Following limits FAQ for more information.
Attempting to “follow” an X user“You have been blocked from following this account at the request of the user.”Not available. When an X user blocks you, you are not allowed to communicate with them on X.
Selecting “View Conversation” in an X stream“Sorry, you are not authorized to see this post.”One of the users in the conversation has a protected profile. They must approve you as a follower before you can view their posts.
Attempting to send multiple posts“User is over daily status update limit.”Try posting at a later time (minimum one hour).
Attempting to send a post longer than 280 characters“Your message is too long for X”X posts are limited to 280 characters. Shorten your message and try again.
Attempting to post the same message more than once“Post is a duplicate.”Not available. X does not allow duplicate posts.
Attempting to post a link“Missing or invalid URL parameter.”

The link is missing or has invalid parameters. Try shortening the link again.

Copy and paste the newly shortened link into a new browser window, to confirm that the link is active.

Attempting to post a message very quickly, or image upload incomplete

“This request looks like it might be automated. To protect our users from spam and other malicious activity, we can't complete this action right now. Please try again later.”

Ow‌.ly link displays as ow‌.ly/i/****1.

Recreate your post, and wait a few seconds before selecting “Send”.

Facebook

Facebook error messages

Trying to post or schedule to Facebook“The user must be an administrator of the page in order to impersonate it.”

"The user that last authorized this Facebook Page in Hootsuite does not have post permissions for this page"		The Facebook user who originally added the Page to Hootsuite has had their admin status changed on the Page. A user with Advanced social network permissions for the Page must Reconnect a social account.
Trying to post or schedule to Facebook

“(#368) The action attempted has been deemed abusive or is otherwise disallowed.”

“Warning: This Message Contains Blocked Content: Some content in this message has been reported as abusive by Facebook users.”

The URL in the scheduled message has been flagged by Facebook’s spam filter. Shorten the link and reschedule the message.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn error messages

Trying to post to LinkedIn“There was an error sending to (username), please check and resend.”

Message exceeds LinkedIn character limit. Reduce message and resend.

  • LinkedIn personal profile comments: 700
  • LinkedIn pages: 3,000
  • LinkedIn page comments: 700
Trying to post to a LinkedIn PageGeneric error message.

The LinkedIn user who added the Page to Hootsuite may no longer be a Designated Admin of the Page. A Designated Admin must reconnect the account. See Reconnect a social account for instructions.

Instagram

Instagram error messages

Posting to Instagram“Device pairing required for Instagram profile (profile name)”No users have Instagram notifications turned on for the profile on their mobile device. Enable notifications in your Hootsuite app.
Scheduling to Instagram“No subscriptions are available for Instagram. Please configure a network for publishing.”No users have Instagram notifications turned on for the profile on their mobile device. Enable notifications in your Hootsuite app.

TikTok

TikTok error messages

Action may vary"A temporary error occurred"Reconnect your TikTok account to Hootsuite. If that doesn't work, make sure your post is unique (not a duplicate post).
