Create a thread

Tip: This feature is available on the web version of Hootsuite only (not on mobile). Threads are currently not available in Streams.

Create and publish your threads from Hootsuite. To save time, you can publish to several Threads accounts or social networks at once. You can choose to publish threads right away, or schedule them in advance for a specific day and time.

This article describes the new Social OS experience. If you haven't switched yet, select the Classic tab for instructions. Learn more about the Social OS experience.

Create your thread

Threads must be created using the web version of Hootsuite. Mobile is not available at this time. Polls are not supported.

Go to Perch, then select Calendar to start and schedule your post in a calendar view, or select Create a post.
Select the Threads profile you'd like to publish to.
Create your thread. The character limit for threads is 500. You can include the following in your thread.
- Links - Enter or paste a link in your post to drive traffic to your website, blog, or product. Links in Threads appear as plain text in the preview (see Work with link previews). You can shorten your links in Hootsuite for a tidier look, and add tracking parameters so you can see how much web traffic comes from those links. Learn how to shorten and track links.
- Emoji - Select the smiley face to add emoji.
- Mentions - Enter @username in your thread to invite others on social to join a conversation, and help your thread reach their audience as well as your own. Mentions remain in plain text until the thread is published.
(Optional) Let AI help you write or refine your post. Select Enhance with Wisdom or use the options in the inline toolbar to have Wisdom optimize your post. These options are only available if your organization supports using AI (see Hootsuite AI terms).
- Enhance caption with Wisdom - optimize your post for your selected social network(s).
- Spelling & grammar - check for spelling and grammar errors in your post.
- Shorten caption - make your post caption shorter.
- Elaborate caption - make your post caption longer.
- More engaging - get suggestions to make your post more actionable.
Add media to your post. You can add either images or video (not both), to your thread. Drag up to 20 images or a video from your computer into your post or select Add media to upload files.
Looking for more ways to add media? You can also add media using:

When you’re finished creating your thread, take a look at the preview on the right to see how it will look on Threads. You'll be alerted if there are any issues. Save a draft of your thread if you're not ready to publish or schedule it. Otherwise, select a Post now or Schedule for later option.
