Tag posts and messages

Tags allow you to visually classify posts and messages by category, which is useful for keeping track of things like engagement for specific campaigns and for providing other team members context about specific conversations or posts. Think of a tag as an internal hashtag that can be attached to posts and messages without being visible to the public. If your team plans to use tags, everyone should add all relevant tags to their posts or messages, and do so consistently.

If your organization has organized its tags into tag groups, you'll see tags nested under their group headers wherever you apply tags, and you can search by group name or tag name to find the right one faster.

Plans: Advanced, Business, and Enterprise

All members can tag posts and messages, but only organization Super Admins, Admins, and members with custom organization permissions to Manage message tags can create tags and manage the organization’s tag library. Learn how to create and manage tags.

Tag outbound posts

Add tags when creating posts to help you track the success of your published content. Tags are not publicly visible on your posts. They're a sort of internal filing system for your posts. For example, you can add tags to posts to sort them by product, campaign, or region. You can add tags to X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn posts and messages.

Tip: You can also add tags to your scheduled or published posts retroactively in your content calendar, going back up to one year.

Go to Perch , and then select Create a post.
In the Tags section, select tags from the list to add them to your post. If tags are organized into groups, they'll be nested under their group headers. You can enter a keyword to search for a tag or, if you're an organization Super Admin, Admin, or user with custom permissions to Manage message tags, you can create a new tag to add to your tag library.

Go to Create.
In the Tags section, select tags from the list to add them to your post. You can enter a keyword to search for a tag or, if you're an organization Super Admin, Admin, or user with custom permissions to Manage message tags, you can create a new tag to add to your tag library.

Important: When you create a Facebook GIF or video post or and add a tag to that post, Analytics cannot filter on it. However, if you add a tag to that post retroactively (in Streams, for example), it can be filtered in Analytics.

Tag multiple posts at once in your content calendar

Instead of tagging posts one at a time, you can select a batch of posts in your content calendar or Drafts view and apply one or more tags to all of them in a single action. This is useful for retroactively tagging previously untagged content, or for tagging a themed campaign's drafts before they're scheduled.

Bulk tagging only adds new tags to posts. Any tags a post already has are kept, and a post that already has a tag you're applying is simply left as is for that tag.

Bulk tagging is only available in the Social OS experience.

Go to Perch , and then select Calendar.
Select Bulk tag.
Select up to 50 posts from the calendar. Bulk tagging works across drafts, scheduled, published, and expired posts.
Select Add tags, and then search for or select one or more tags you want to add to the posts.
Select Apply.

Note: Bulk tagging is not supported in the calendar month view.

Tag posts in Streams

Add tags to posts in Streams to help categorize your content. You can then analyze the tags by type in Hootsuite Analytics. Analytics retrieves data for public posts (not unpublished or dark posts). You'll see tags applied to posts in-stream on X, Facebook, Instagram Business, and LinkedIn. You cannot tag comments or replies in Streams.

Go to Nest, select Streams, locate the post in your stream, select More Actions below the post, and then select Add Tag.
Select an organization, and then select tags from the list to add them to the post. You can enter a keyword in the Enter a tag box to search for a tag. If you're an organization Super Admin, Admin, or user with custom organization permissions to Manage message tags, you can create a new tag. It will be added to the post and to your tag library.
Select Save.

Go to More, select Streams, locate the post in your stream, select More Actions below the post, and then select Add Tag.

You can filter your X and Facebook inbound post metrics by tag in Analytics.

Tag messages in Inbox

Add tags to messages in Inbox to help categorize your message content. Tags are a helpful way to add metadata about a message. For example, you might add tags to a message to define the message type (question, comment, or request) or identify parts of the overall conversation (greeting vs. closing).

If your tags are organized into groups, they're nested under their group headers in the tag picker.

Go to Nest, and then select Add tags below a comment or reply.
Select tags from the list to add them to the message. You can enter a keyword in the Search tags box to search for a tag or group name.
