Create a TikTok video

You can publish videos to TikTok from Hootsuite. To save time, you can publish to several TikTok accounts or social networks at once. Publish videos right away, or schedule them in advance for a specific day and time.

Keep the following TikTok API limitations in mind:
  • Stories: Hootsuite does not currently support publishing TikTok Stories.
  • Post volume: TikTok limits accounts to a maximum of 15 posts every 24 hours.

Prepare your TikTok video

You can use the following workflow to prepare your videos using TikTok’s transitions and effects, and then upload them to use Hootsuite's scheduling and collaboration features. Save time by creating several videos at once and scheduling them in Hootsuite with the rest of the social content in your calendar. There’s no limit to how far out you can schedule a video.

  1. In the TikTok app, create a video as usual.
  2. On the Post screen, select Who can watch this video and choose Only me.
  3. Select More options, and make sure Save to device is toggled on.

  4. Select Post. The video is saved to your device and to your profile’s private videos . You can delete the video from this section of your profile if you want to.
  5. Upload your finished video to Hootsuite on desktop or the Hootsuite mobile app to schedule and manage it as part of your complete social calendar. See the next section, Publish your video post, for instructions.

Note: This workflow lets you add sound from TikTok to your video, but when it’s published from Hootsuite, the music will be listed as original sound.

Publish or schedule your video post

Now that you've added your video to TikTok, you can publish it from Hootsuite to take advantage of Hootsuite's scheduling and collaboration features.

  1. Go to Perch, then select Calendar to start and schedule your post in a calendar view, or select Create a post.
  2. Select the TikTok accounts you'd like to publish to.
  3. Create your caption. The character limit for TikTok captions is 2200. TikTok does not support URLs or line breaks. You can include the following in your caption:
    • Hashtags - Enter your own hashtags or select AI hashtag suggestions to find hashtags that work with your post text and media. Read our guide to using hashtags on every network.
    • Mentions - Enter @username in your post to invite others on social to join a conversation, and help your post reach their audience as well as your own. Mentions remain in plain text until the video is published.
    • Emoji - Select the smiley face to add emoji.
  4. (Optional) Let AI help you write or refine your post - Select Wisdom to have Wisdom help you optimize your post for your selected social network, change the tone of your post, or make your post actionable. This option is only available to organizations who support using AI (see Hootsuite AI terms).
  5. Drag your video into your post or choose Add media. TikTok supports one video per post. Due to TikTok limitations, it’s not possible to access TikTok sounds in Hootsuite. TikTok video requirements:
    • File type .mov or .mp4 (playable previews don’t appear in Hootsuite for .mov files)
    • Length between 3 seconds and 10 minutes
    • Minimum height and width of 360 pixels
    • Frame rate between 23 and 60 fps
      Tip: Videos saved from TikTok will show a TikTok watermark. You can crop this out of your video or use an app or video editing tool to remove it. Check out 4 easy ways to remove the TikTok watermark.
  6. (Optional) Point to a video thumbnail and select Video settings to choose a suggested cover image or upload a custom image.
  7. Comments, Duet, and Stitch are allowed on your video by default. If these settings are turned off in your TikTok profile’s privacy settings, they will override your video settings. Turn these off in Hootsuite to customize the privacy settings on your video.
  8. Advanced, Business, and Enterprise plans (optional) - Select one or more team members, or a team, from the Request approval list to help make sure your post is on-brand and polished before you publish it. Learn more about approvals.
  9. Advanced, Business, and Enterprise plans (optional) - - Select Add next to Tags to apply tags to your posts and analyze their performance in Hootsuite Analytics. Find out more about tagging posts.
  10. When you’re finished creating your video post, take a look at it in the preview on the right to see how it will look in TikTok. Save a draft of your post if you're not ready to publish or schedule it. Otherwise, select a Post now or Schedule for later option.

Note: Only TikTok posts that you publish through Hootsuite are displayed in your content calendar. Posts published directly in TikTok are not shown in the content calendar.

A temporary error occurred

After publishing or scheduling your TikTok post, you may see "A temporary error occurred" in Hootsuite. This error can appear for TikTok for several reasons, but reconnecting should fix most causes.

Follow the steps in this article to proactively reconnect your TikTok account. When you reconnect, be sure to authorize all permissions for Hootsuite.

If you try publishing again and see the error again, it could be because the post is a duplicate. Please retry publishing after 24 hours, but make changes to the post to make it unique.
