Connect an Instagram account

Connect an Instagram Business account to Hootsuite to publish to it, engage with your audience, create reports, and more.

Important: Meta no longer allows third party tools like Hootsuite to integrate and manage Instagram Personal profiles. You can convert your Personal profile to a Business account at any time. For more information, see Instagram Personal profile deprecation - December 2024.

To add social accounts to Hootsuite organizations, you need Super Admin, Admin, or custom Add social networks organization permissions. Social accounts can only be connected to one organization, but they can be shared with multiple teams. Learn more about managing your organization's social accounts.

Before you begin

For full access to the Instagram features available in Hootsuite, including engagement, direct publishing, and analytics, you need to connect a Business profile.

Important: Hootsuite labels Creator profiles as Business profiles, but due to limitations from Instagram, Creator profiles have limited access to Instagram features in Hootsuite.

Before you connect an Instagram Business account to Hootsuite, make sure you have the following:

An Instagram Business profile connected to a Facebook Page.
- If you still have a Personal profile, see Convert an Instagram Personal profile to a Business profile.
- If you already have a Business profile, see Meta's help article Connect or disconnect an Instagram account and your Page.
The right permissions ( See the Facebook help article See your Facebook Page role or access):
- Full or partial control of your Facebook Page
- Management access to the Page in the Business Manager account. See the Facebook help article Add People to Your Business Manager.

Tip: If you've already connected a Personal profile to your Hootsuite account, you can convert it to a Business profile and then connect it to your account again with the following steps. Hootsuite automatically updates the connected profile for you when you complete the process.

Connect your Instagram Business account

In a separate browser tab or window, log out of Instagram and Facebook.
Use the following instructions for your plan type:
- Professional, Business, and Enterprise - Go to Account , and then select Social accounts and teams. To connect a social account to a Hootsuite organization, select Manage, and then select Add a social account. Otherwise, select + Private account.
- Standard, Team, and Advanced - Go to Account , select Social accounts and teams (BETA), select New, and then select Connect social accounts.
Select Instagram Business.
Select Log in to Facebook.
Enter your Facebook account credentials, and then select Log in.
Select Add beside the Instagram Business profiles you want to connect to Hootsuite, and then select Done.

Note: When you connect social accounts on mobile, they are added to your private accounts. To add social accounts to an organization, use the web version of Hootsuite.

Select your profile picture , and then select Social accounts.
Select the plus icon +, and then select Instagram.
Select Connect Instagram business.
The Hootsuite app displays onboarding information for next steps. Swipe right to move through the instructions and then select Connect with Facebook.
Enter your Facebook log in information and then select Log In.
Select Add beside the Instagram Business profiles you want to connect to Hootsuite, and then select Done.
