Import or export tags

If your organization manages a large tag library, you can export your tags to a CSV file, make changes offline, and re-import the file to update your tag library at scale. This is the fastest way to set up tag groups or migrate a large number of ungrouped tags into groups at once.

Only organization Super Admins, Admins, and members with custom organization permission to Manage message tags can import or export tags.

Export your tag library

1. Go to Account, select Social accounts and teams, and then select Tags. (You may have to expand the left navigation to see this option.)
   
2. Select Export tags (CSV). Your browser automatically downloads a CSV file containing your current tag library.

Your export file includes a column for the tag name and its current group assignment (or blank if the tag is in the Ungrouped tags category.

Edit the CSV file

Open the file in a spreadsheet program (like Excel or Google Sheets) and make your changes:

• To move a tag into a group, enter the group's name in the group assignment column. If the group doesn't exist yet, it will be created when you import the file.
• To move a tag out of a group, clear the group assignment column for that row.

Tags and groups share the same naming pool and tag and group names must be unique across your organization. Names can be up to 80 characters long. Your organization can have up to 10,000 tags in total, with up to 200 tags per group. You can import up to 5,000 rows in a single file.

Note: Moving a tag into a group through a CSV import clears that tag's existing description. Keep a copy of the original file if you want to preserve the old descriptions.

Import your CSV

1. Go to Account, select Social accounts and teams, and then select Tags. (You may have to expand the left navigation to see this option.)
   
2. Select Import tags (CSV).
3. Upload your CSV file, and then select Import.

If your import fails, check for these common issues:

• Duplicate name: a tag or group name in your file matches an existing tag or group name elsewhere in your organization (remember, names are case-insensitive and shared between tags and groups).
• Name too long: tag and group names must be 80 characters or fewer.
• Group limit exceeded: a group can have up to 200 tags.
• Organization limit exceeded: your organization can have up to 10,000 tags in total.
• Row limit exceeded: a single import file can contain up to 5,000 rows.
