About boosted posts

Boosted posts are paid ads that you create from existing social network posts. Boosting a post extends its reach beyond your followers so that more people see it. You can choose a goal for your boost campaign, who you want to see it (based on demographics, location, and interests), how much you want to spend, and how long you want the social network to promote it.

You can boost an existing post that's already live, or add boost settings when you publish a new post. You can also schedule a boost post, and edit it just like any other post.

You can boost a post on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. For detailed instructions, see the following:

How does promotion spending work?

When you promote a post, you pay the social network to show it to more people who are likely to interact with it. You need an ad account on the social network to boost your posts or run ad campaigns. For Facebook and Instagram, you can use the same ad account because Meta owns both platforms. For LinkedIn, use your LinkedIn ad account.

When you create an ad account, the social network requires you to attach a valid payment method to it before you can use the account to create an ad or boost a post. Depending on the social network, you can set a maximum budget to keep spending under control.

The social network bills your ad account directly when you boost a post or publish an ad campaign. Hootsuite does not take any money for publishing your ad campaigns or boosting your posts from our platform. For more information, see the following articles:

For information on how to add an ad account to Hootsuite, see Manage ad accounts and advertising permissions.
