Create an X ad campaign
Important: This feature is currently in development and is available as a beta release on the web version of Hootsuite only (not on mobile). X ads are currently not available in your Hootsuite content calendar. Watch for a full release in the future.
X (formerly Twitter) ad campaigns help you increase your reach and get more people to engage with your brand. You can use X's audience targeting features to narrow in on your ideal customer, so you can create ads that will get their attention.
Create your campaign, define your target audience, set a budget, choose how long you want it to run, build your ad creative, and publish the campaign to X, all in Hootsuite. Use OwlyWriter AI to enhance your ad copy and create multiple variations of your ad so you can see what resonates most with your audience.
Tip: You can select Save as draft at any step of the campaign creation process and return to it later. All of your draft ad campaigns are available in Ads for 90 days.
Before you begin
Before you can create an X ad campaign in Hootsuite, make sure that your X ad account is connected to Hootsuite. See Manage ad accounts and advertising permissions for more information.
X campaign creation workflow
To create an X ad campaign in Hootsuite, complete the following series of tasks to put all of your ad campaign elements in place.
To get started, select the X ad account you want to use for your campaign and set a campaign objective.
- Go to Create, point to Ad, and then select On Twitter.
- Select the X (formerly Twitter)) account and ad account you want to use for your campaign.
- Enter a name for your campaign.
- Choose an objective for your campaign. This is the business goal you want to achieve. You can choose one of the following options:
- Engagement - Increase audience interaction with your content.
- Website traffic - Drive traffic to a website or landing page.
- Select Next: Audience and budget.
Set up a target audience for your ad campaign to make sure the right people see your ad, and then set your budget and duration of time to run your ad.
- Select Edit audience and specify which audience attributes to target, like location, gender, age, and interests.
- Set your average daily budget and the start and end dates for your promotion.
- Select Next: Create ad.
As you build your ad, Hootsuite displays a preview of what your ad will look like on mobile and desktop platforms.
Tip: Create multiple ads for your campaign so you can test different headlines and creative elements. X (formerly Twitter) optimizes delivery for the ads that perform best with your audience. You can include up to 100 ads in your campaign.
- Enter a name for your ad to tell people what you’re promoting (up to 280 characters).
- (Optional) Let AI help you refine your ad - Select Enhance with OwlyWriter AI, and then select one of the following options to enhance your ad copy:
- Fix spelling/grammar
- Optimize length
- Adjust tone
- Inspire engagement
- Add an image or video. Drag a media file into the box, add a media library asset, or upload a file from your computer.
- Enter a headline to get your audience’s attention.
- Enter a URL for your website or landing page.
- (Optional) Create more ads for your campaign so you can see which one performs best. You have several options for creating additional ads:
- Select Create variations with AI to get OwlyWriter AI to generate three different versions of your existing ad. You can make any changes you want to each variation.
- Select Copy details to new ad to use your existing ad as a baseline, and then make any necessary changes.
- Select Create an ad to build a new ad from scratch.
Once you've built your ads and checked the ad preview to make sure you're happy with how they look, you're ready to publish your ad campaign.
- Select Summary to review your campaign details. You can return to previous screens to make any changes you need to.
- Select Publish campaign.
Hootsuite sends the campaign to X for approval. X typically approves the campaign within 24 hours.
Once your campaign is published, you can manage your campaign in Ads .
