Remove a member from a team or account

Keep access to your organization, teams, and social accounts up-to-date. When you remove a member, they cannot collaborate with other organization members. They also lose access to organization-specific features.

A removed member's Hootsuite account only retains features specific to their plan type. Learn more about our plan offerings.

Expand the instructions for your plan. If you don't know what plan you have, go to Hootsuite, and then select Account - you'll find it below your name.

Remove a member from an organization

Remove a member from an organization and any teams they belong to in the organization.

If you need to remove an account owner, you must transfer ownership of the organization to someone else (see Transfer ownership of a Hootsuite account) before they can be removed. In this case, the new owner assumes paying member status and the previous owner frees up their team seat.

You must be a Super Admin, Admin, or member with the custom organization permission to Manage members to remove members from an organization.

If the member is not removed, they may be the account or organization owner. In this case, follow the instructions to Transfer ownership of a Hootsuite account.

Remove a member from a team

Remove a member from a team, but keep them in the organization. You must have one the following roles to remove a member from a team:

  • Be an organization Super Admin or Admin or a member with the custom organization permission to Manage members.
  • Have Team Admin, Unlimited, or the custom team permission to Manage team members for the team you're removing members from.

Revoke a member's access to a social account

Revoking a member's access to a social account does not remove the member from the team or organization. You must have one the following roles to revoke a member's access to a social account:

  • Be an organization Super Admin or Admin or a member with the custom organization permission to Manage members.
  • Have Team Admin, Unlimited, or the custom team permission to Manage team members for the team you're removing members from.
  • Have Unlimited, Advanced or the custom social account permission Manage member social network permissions for the social account.
