About Hootsuite MCP servers

MCP (Model Context Protocol) connectors let you connect Hootsuite to the AI tools you already use, so you can publish content, query analytics, manage your inbox, and research social listening data through a natural language conversation, without switching between browser tabs or writing any code.

At launch, Hootsuite MCP connectors are available through Claude and ChatGPT. Support for additional AI platforms may be added in future.

How it works

Once you connect a Hootsuite MCP connector to your AI tool, you simply describe what you need and the AI executes the right operations on your behalf. For example:

• "What was our Instagram engagement rate last month?"
• "Schedule a post to our LinkedIn page for Friday at 10am."
• "Show me the 10 oldest unassigned conversations in my inbox."
• "Summarize what people are saying about our brand this week."

You don't need to write code or deal with API endpoints directly.

Available MCP connectors

Hootsuite offers four MCP connectors: Perch (content planning and publishing), Nest (social customer care), Lumen (social listening and insights), and Parliament (employee advocate content sharing).

Perch

Query analytics and manage publishing across your connected social profiles. Perch can both read data and take actions on your behalf.

When you connect your AI tools to the Perch MCP server, you can:

• Ask for analytics data including impressions, reach, engagement rate, clicks, follower growth, and post-level performance
• Publish posts or save drafts to any connected social profile your account is entitled to manage
• Get AI-recommended posting times
• Browse your organization's content library
• List the social profiles and workspaces available to you

Note: Perch handles one post per instruction. Manage multi-post campaigns directly in Hootsuite. Network-level restrictions such as character limits and media requirements still apply.

Nest

Read and triage inbox conversations across your connected social channels. Most capabilities are read and triage only.

When you connect your AI tools to the Nest MCP server, you can:

• Browse open or pending conversations
• Assign conversations to an agent or team
• Update conversation status
• Add internal notes (visible to your team only)
• Tag conversations with topics
• Retrieve saved reply templates

Note: Sending public replies to customers isn't supported through MCP. Send outbound replies through the Hootsuite web version.

Lumen

Query social listening data from your Lumen project. Lumen is read-only.

When you connect your AI tools to the Lumen MCP server, you can:

• Search and filter mentions by date, sentiment, and source
• Get AI-generated summaries of brand mentions and key themes
• Retrieve mention volume over time
• View breakdowns by channel, sentiment, language, country, and more
• Identify top influencers posting about a topic
• Surface broader social trends

Note: Creating, editing, or deleting topics must be done inside Lumen directly. Lumen requires an active Lumen powered by Talkwalker licence. You'll also need a valid project ID to use Lumen. To find yours, select the lumen_list_projects tool in your AI platform.

Parliament

Discover, share, and schedule content from your Parliament advocacy feed. The Parliament MCP is limited to advocate sharing actions. Content curation, topic management, and admin tasks remain in the Parliament web app.

When you connect your AI tools to the Parliament MCP server, you can:

• get personalized content suggestions from Parliament topics you subscribe to
• share a post to one of your own connected social profiles
• build a content sharing plan using recommended posting times
• list your connected social profiles

Note: You must be a Parliament advocate in an organization with access to Parliament to use this connector. Sharing is limited to your own private social profiles, and post personalization is not supported.

Network data restrictions

Due to agreements with certain social networks, data from the following networks is excluded when a connector is enabled for a chat session: X, LinkedIn, Reddit, Snapchat, and YouTube.

If you have a connector active, data from these networks won't be available for any purpose within that chat. This ensures no data from these networks is transferred to external systems.

Data and privacy

Each MCP connector is scoped to your Hootsuite account entitlements. Connectors can't access data outside what your account is permitted to view or manage. MCP connectors do not store conversation history. Each session is stateless, so context such as project IDs and profile selections needs to be re-established in each new conversation.

MCP connectors transfer data outside of Hootsuite, and follow the same social data restrictions as Hootsuite's public APIs.

Permissions

MCP connectors respect your Hootsuite role and permission level. For example:

• Publishing posts requires publish permission on the connected social profile.
• Assigning inbox conversations requires an agent or admin role in Nest.
• Analytics data is scoped to the profiles your role has view access to.

If you try to take an action your role doesn't permit, you'll receive a permissions error.

Plans and access

Perch and Nest are available to customers on Hootsuite plans that include MCP connector access. Contact your Hootsuite admin to confirm your entitlements.

Lumen requires an active Talkwalker standalone licence in addition to MCP access.

Connect your AI tool

To get started, open your AI platform's MCP or Connectors settings, add the Hootsuite MCP connector, and sign in to your Hootsuite account to authorize access.
