Visualizations in Analytics reports
Hootsuite Analytics provides numerous visualization options to display your metrics.
Visualization types
Use the following information to help you select the type of visualization best suited to display your data. Visualizations that aren't supported for a metric display in grey to indicate they cannot be selected.
Line
Use the Line visualization to display daily values for the selected time frame with a single line graphed on an x-y axis. This visualization allows you to compare series where multiple values intersect. Use Area visualizations (description follows) to view metrics with multiple values.
Tip: Select a point on the line to dig deeper into your data and view additional information for that point in time.
Area
Use the Area visualization to display daily values for the selected time frame using an area shaded in on an x-y axis. Area visualizations allow you to view metrics with multiple values by stacking values on top of each other. Use Line visualizations (described previously) to compare metrics with multiple values.
Tip: Select a point on the line to dig deeper into your data and view additional information for that point in time.
Column
Use the Column visualization to display daily values for the selected time frame with one vertical column representing each day.
Geo map
Use the Geo map to display metrics that can be compared by country. Hover over a country to show the data specific to that country.
Pie
Use the Pie visualization to display relative sizes of data for metrics with multiple values. Pies display four data values - the three largest and an ‘other’ category that combines all other data into a single group. To view the details of ‘other,’ select the List visualization (description follows).
List
Use the List visualization to display metrics with multiple values in a list format. Scroll to view the entire list. If you have a metric with an 'other' category, you can use the List visualization to view that data.
Number
Use the Number visualization to display each metric with an aggregated numeric value. Metrics with multiple values display four values - the three largest and an ‘other’ category that combines all other data into a single group. To view the details of ‘other,’ select the List visualization (described previously). Apply a date range comparison to show the difference between periods.
Gauge
Use the Gauge visualization to display comparisons between two time periods. Hover over each line in the gauge to view the number represented. This visualization does not support metrics with multiple values.
When a date range comparison is applied, the Gauge can show the difference between periods as a number or as a percentage.
Table
Use the Table to display a summary of posts with selected metrics published to a specific social profile. The Table visualization is exclusively for metrics with ‘Table’ in their name.
Select a column heading to sort the table rows by that column heading (this feature is not available for Ow.ly Traffic tables).
Word map
Use the Word map for topic-related message metrics (like Inbound messages and Posted topics). The Word map displays the words and phrases that show up most often in messages with a conversation map.
Hootsuite automatically eliminates the most common words like "and," "the," and "if." The darker the color in the Word map, the higher the percentage of occurrence of that word.
When this visualization is selected for non topic-related metrics, the Word map acts like the Pie visualization.
Top posts
Use Top posts to display your top post or your top 3 posts. Top posts will include rich thumbnails for post pictures. If your top posts have the same metrics, the visualization will display the most recent posts. Note, tags and campaigns attached to these posts will not be indicated in the visualization. The Top posts visualization is exclusively for Top Posts and Top Tweets.
