Perform a Quick Search

Create a Quick Search in Listening Basics or Listening (powered by Talkwalker) to find out in real-time how an idea, a campaign, a brand, or even just a word resonates with online audiences. Your search term can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it, using standard Boolean operators. See About search query syntax for a list of supported Boolean operators.

You can run a quick search from the Hootsuite homepage or the Listening dashboard. However, there are different options available to you depending on which entry point you choose.

  • From the Hootsuite homepage: You can enter your search term (and any relevant Boolean operators) in the search field.
  • From the Listening dashboard: You can enter your own search term or select a search term from the list trending hashtags, brands or events. You can also select a specific location for your search query (Listening returns results from all locations by default).

When you run your Quick Search from the Listening dashboard, Listening displays a dynamic list of available operators as you type. Listening also validates the syntax of your query as you go, so you can quickly identify and correct any errors.

Run a Quick Search

  1. Choose the entry point for your search:
    • On the Hootsuite home page , enter your search term in the Quick search field, then select Search.
    • Go to Listening, enter your search term in the Quick Search field, then press ENTER. You can also select a search term from any of the Top hashtags, Top brands, or Top events lists, and select a specific region from the Trend locations list.
  2. Review your search results to see engagement, overall sentiment, and top words and themes associated with your search term.

Note: The widgets available to you depend on which Listening plan you have (that is, Listening Basics or Listening (powered by Talkwalker)).

  3. Optionally, select a different timeframe for your search results. You can select one of the preset timeframe options, or use the calendar button to select a specific date range.
  4. Optionally, select Filters to apply filters to your search results and narrow down results of interest. You can filter by sentiment, media types, countries, or languages. See Filter and customize your search results for more information.
  5. Optionally, select Refresh results to make sure your search results are up to date.

  6. If you want to refine your search results, select the search bar and enter your revised search term, then press ENTER.

Edit a quick search

You can give your quick search a new label, assign a different color to the label, or make changes to your search term.

  1. On the Quick Search results page, select More in the search query field, then select Edit.
  2. In the Edit search window, do one or more of the following:
    • Enter a new label for the Quick Search.
    • Select a different color for the Quick Search label.
    • Edit the search query.
  3. Select Confirm to save your changes.
