Facebook will be introducing changes to its API to enhance user privacy. These changes will be applied to every app, vendor and platform using Facebook’s API, including Hootsuite.
The new changes are focused on managing personal profiles, groups and search functionality. Enterprise clients will likely experience minimal impact to the management of owned Pages and groups.
Anticipated changes after April 30, 2015:
Users can only authenticate, manage, and publish to Facebook groups where they are a group administrator. For any groups without administrator permissions, users will encounter the following:
- Groups previously added to Hootsuite will cease to function.
- Group streams will be empty and display an error.
- Scheduled messages will not be sent. If you do not have group administrator permissions, we encourage you to export and download your scheduled messages.
Streams: News Feeds
All News Feed streams for personal profiles will no longer be supported, and will be removed. This includes:
- News feed - Most Recent.
- News feed - Photos.
- News feed - Status.
- News feed - Videos.
Streams: Timeline and inbound posts
While users will be able to view posts they are mentioned in, they will not be able to view posts they are tagged in. Users are tagged when the author adds their name to a post using the tag icon. Mentions are when the author includes a user's name in the body of their post.
Please note that Facebook modules and templates within Hootsuite Analytics will not be affected by this API update.
