Like or unlike a tweet

When you like a tweet, Twitter notifies the creator of the tweet.

Tip: Consider adding a Likes stream to your Hootsuite dashboard (see Add a Twitter stream).

  1. Go to Streams , and then select the board hosting the stream.
  2. Select Like  below the tweet.

Reply to a tweet

Replies are tweets that are public responses to another tweet. Any @usernames you include appear in the conversation above your tweet, so they are not included in the tweet's character count.

  1. Go to Streams , and then select the board hosting the Twitter stream.
  2. Select Reply  below the tweet.
  3. Enter your message, and then select Send.

Retweet

Retweeting allows you to re-share someone else's tweets to your own Twitter followers. You can retweet a message as-is, quote the tweet to embed the original tweet as an image in your tweet, or edit or add to it before sending.

Retweeting or quoting your own tweets from Streams can also be useful when you want to resurface earlier tweets or quickly reuse already-approved content.

  1. Go to Streams , and then select the board hosting the Twitter stream.
  2. Select Retweet  below the post to retweet the message as-is. Or, select the retweet drop-down arrow  and select one of the following:
    • Retweet - Forward the tweet to your followers. Your name is shown above the tweet as the retweeter.
    • Retweet from - Retweet from a different Twitter account. The name of the Twitter account is shown above the tweet as the retweeter.
    • Quote - Embed the original tweet as an image in your tweet. You may add your own comments to the quoted tweet. Until you publish, the quoted tweet displays as a preview of a Twitter URL (it also displays this way in Scheduled streams and Publisher). Because the quote is a link, it reserves 23 characters of your tweet. The quoted tweet displays as an image after you publish.
    • Edit - Modify the tweet before publishing it. The original tweet is preceded by "RT" and the author's @username, to indicate that it's a retweet. RT and the username are included in the character count.

Important: Quoted tweets do not appear in Mentions or Retweets streams.

Note: If you don't see these options when you select Retweet, enable Use Twitter Web retweets in your Hootsuite account preferences. Go to My Profile , select Account settings, preferences, and billing, and then select Preferences.

Send a direct message

Unless you set your Twitter settings to receive direct messages from anyone, you can send direct messages only to Twitter users who follow you.

  1. Go to Streams , and then select the board hosting the Twitter stream.
  2. Select More Actions  below the tweet, and then select Direct Message.
  3. Enter your message, and then select Send Now.

Note: If you don't see these options when you select Retweet, enable Use Twitter Web retweets in your Hootsuite account preferences: Go to My Profile , select Account settings, preferences, and billing, and then select Preferences.
