Connecting your social accounts to Hootsuite helps you save time managing your social media. Instead of signing in to each social network individually, you can manage activity for all of them in one place.
Each Hootsuite plan type allows you to add a different number of social profiles. Generally, everyone has one social profile per account when they sign up with a social network, like Twitter or Instagram. Facebook and LinkedIn are a bit different. Within those accounts, you could have access to multiple profile types, including your personal profile, as well as Pages or groups. Pages and groups are also considered profile types in Hootsuite.
The following profile types are supported in Hootsuite and count toward your profile limit:
Facebook groups - Analytics are not supported for groups.
Facebook profiles - Following several changes by Facebook in 2018 to protect user privacy, the Facebook personal profile integration is read-only. Publishing is no longer supported.
Instagram business profiles
Instagram personal profiles - Analytics and direct publishing aren’t supported for personal profiles, and stream monitoring is read-only.
Instagram creator profiles - Creator profiles are recognized as personal profiles in Hootsuite.
LinkedIn Pages (Company, Showcase, or University)
Pinterest profiles - Hootsuite’s Pinterest integration is for publishing only, so streams aren’t available. Pinterest is only available on desktop.
Note: LinkedIn groups and Facebook gray accounts aren’t supported. Gray accounts are an old type of account used to manage a Facebook Page without a personal Facebook account.
Tip: To add a social network not listed here, check if it’s available through the Hootsuite app directory.
For step-by-step instructions for connecting each type of account, see:
- Add a Facebook account to Hootsuite
- Add an Instagram account to Hootsuite
- Add a Twitter account to Hootsuite
- Add a LinkedIn account to Hootsuite
- Add a YouTube channel to Hootsuite
- Add a Pinterest account to Hootsuite
If you reach your plan limit when adding social profiles, you’ll have to remove one to make room for another. See Remove a social network from Hootsuite.
Why have I hit a limit even though my plan type supports more?
If you’re a team member, make sure you’re adding profiles to the organization, instead of for your private use. If you’ve recently upgraded to a Business plan, your limit will be updated after you receive the first email from the Hootsuite customer success team.
The profile I’m trying to add is currently owned by another user
Social profiles can only be connected to one Hootsuite account at a time. If the profile you’re trying to add is already connected to another Hootsuite account, you may see the option to take ownership of the profile.
- If the profile is connected under someone’s social networks for personal use, you’ll be able to take ownership of it, which removes the profile from their Hootsuite account and adds it to yours.
- If the profile is connected under an organization, it can’t be claimed. You’ll either see a message displaying the name of the organization that currently owns the profile, or when you try to take ownership you’ll see, “You don’t have access to this social network”.
If you’re a team member in an organization, you should already have access to the profiles in the organization, so you don’t need to add them to your own dashboard. Select New Post to see which social networks you already have access to via the organization.
