Connect or disconnect social networks in Insights

  

Connect social networks to Insights so you can add social account streams for Twitter and Facebook Pages. Connecting your social networks also lets you engage with the mentions in your streams, and post to your social networks right from Insights.

Twitter profiles, Facebook profiles and Facebook Pages can be connected.

Important: Facebook tokens (connections) expire every 60 days, and will need reconnecting periodically.

Connect social networks

All social networks follow the same connection process except for Facebook Pages; connect an associated Facebook profile first with the following steps, and then you can add a Facebook Page to Insights.

  1. Hover your mouse over the side navigation menu, and then click Settings settings at the bottom of the menu.
  2. Select Connected Accounts from the list on the left.
  3. Click Connect Social Account in the top-right corner of the dashboard, and then select a social network to connect.
  4. Enter your social network credentials, and then click to sign in.
    Click to accept the additional Facebook (OK) permission prompts.

Connect a Facebook Page

  1. After connecting an associated Facebook profile (see above), hover your mouse over the side navigation menu, and then select Add stream.
  2. Click Facebook Page.
  3. Select the Facebook Page to add to Insights, and then click Save.
  4. Enter a stream name and select a folder for the stream.
  5. Click Save Changes & Apply.

The Facebook Page will now appear under Connected Accounts in Settings.

Refresh/reconnect social networks

Refreshing a social network is a good first step in resolving minor issues, like a broken profile picture link or expired connection token. Only the user who added a social network can refresh or reconnect it.

  1. Hover your mouse over the side navigation menu, and then click Settings settings at the bottom of the menu.
  2. Select Connected Accounts from the list on the left.
  3. Hover your mouse over the social network, and then click Refresh.

Disconnect social networks

Only the user who added a social network can disconnect it. When an account is disconnected, all related social streams will stop collecting mentions data.

Important: Disconnecting a Facebook profile will also remove any Pages associated with that account.

  1. Hover your mouse over the side navigation menu, and then click Settings settings at the bottom of the menu.
  2. Select Connected Accounts from the list on the left.
  3. Hover your mouse over the social network, and then click Delete delete.
  4. Click Yes, delete.

Important: To fully disconnect Insights from the social network, Insights access must be revoked from the social account natively.

Revoke Insights access from social networks

In addition to disconnecting your social networks, Insights access should be revoked from the social network natively to completely sever the connection and start fresh.

Revoke Insights access to Twitter

Sign in to Twitter using: https://twitter.com/settings/applications, and then click Revoke access beside Hootsuite Insights.

Revoke Insights access to Facebook

Sign in to Facebook using: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=business_tools, check the box next to Hootsuite Insights, and then click Remove.
