Set up multi-factor authentication

Hootsuite uses the Google Authenticator mobile app to enhance protection of your Hootsuite account.

With Hootsuite's two-step verification, you must sign in to your Hootsuite account with your username and password, and then enter the Google Authenticator code generated by the app on your mobile device. Each code has a one-time use. Google Authenticator generates a new code every 30 seconds.

You can use two-step verification every time you sign in to Hootsuite, or use it only when your sign in location changes.

Are you seeing the Verify your account page? You aren't required to use Google Authenticator to verify your account, but we suggest it for added security. Look for the confirmation code sent to your account email to access your account. See About login verification for details.

Install Google Authenticator

Before you can set up Google Authenticator and two-step verification for your Hootsuite account, you need to install the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device.

Set up two-factor authentication on your Hootsuite account

Two-factor authentication can only be set up on the web version of Hootsuite, but when it is turned on, two-factor authentication is also required when you sign in to the Hootsuite mobile app.

1. Go to Account, and then select Profile.
2. Select Secure with Google.
   
3. Open your Google Authenticator app, and scan your secret code or manually enter it into the app.
4. Enter the 6-digit code from the app into the Code box in Hootsuite and then select Submit.
5. Select whether to use two-step verification on each login or just when your login location changes.

Sign in without your Google Authenticator code

If two-factor authentication is set up on your Hootsuite account, but you don’t have your mobile device with you, you can sign in to your Hootsuite account without a Google Authenticator code.

1. Go to hootsuite.com/login.
2. Enter your Hootsuite email and password.
3. Select Skip this step.
4. Select Send to [your account email]. Hootsuite sends a confirmation code by email to your Hootsuite account email. Copy and paste the code into the sign in page, or use the link in the email to confirm the account and sign in to Hootsuite. Not getting the email?

Revoke Google Authenticator access

Although not recommended, you can disable two-step verification on your account.

1. Go to Account, and then select Profile.
2. Select Security.
3. Select Revoke access.
