Analyze Insights search results

When you run a search, Insights displays a rich set of metrics on your results. You can see at-a-glance if your topic is popular, how people feel about it, and where they're talking about it.

Insights shows each metric in a tile, and individual mentions in the Mentions panel. You can jump to any tile using the navigation. See Metrics in Insights for a complete list of metrics and their descriptions.

Apply filters to your search results

Use filters to display and analyze the metrics that are most important to you. Discover trends and insights into the people who are talking about your topic online. When you select a new time frame and apply filters, Insights updates your search results.

Note: Quick searches only return 30 days' worth of data. You cannot change the time frame for quick search results.

You can filter search results by keyword, platform, sentiment, emotion, gender, mention type, and Twitter account type (for example, verified or unverified, follower threshold, or user role). You can also include or exclude mentions based on specific tags, languages, locations, and ownership (for example, from owned handles or owned websites).

When you close the Filters panel, the Filters icon displays a badge to indicate the number of filters applied to the search results.

  1. Go to Insights.
  2. Enter your search terms in the Quick Search window and press ENTER, or select Saved Searches and select a saved search to view the search results.
  3. Select Filters to open the Filters panel and apply different filters to your search results. Insights updates the search results in real-time.
    Tip: You can use boolean operators (AND and OR) in the Keyword filter to further narrow down your mention results and focus on what matters to you.
  4. For saved searches, you can use the date picker to select a specific timeframe for your search results.

Analyze peaks for your saved searches

Iris™ is an AI analyst that automatically detects significant peaks in conversations and reveals what may be causing a significant jump in popularity for a saved search. This can be a particular tweet that gained a lot of attention or a news article that was shared repeatedly.

Select a peak marker in the Mention Volume Over Time, Sentiment Volume Over Time, or Emotion Volume Over Time tiles to display all potential reasons for the peak.

The Mentions panel shows a list of all the mentions returned in your search results.

  • Show more if you want to expand the Mentions panel to the full search results page
  • Select Hide if you want to remove the mentions from the search results page
  • Select Sort by to change the order of the mentions, according to the available options (like date)

Each entry contains information about the mention, such as source, author, location, date and time. Mentions in saved search results include additional metadata about the post, such as emotion, sentiment, and language, as well as platform-specific information like reach and impressions.

You can also open a mention in its associated platform and engage with it. Select See original post to view the mention on its original platform.

Select an individual mention to open it in a pop-up window and see more details. Use the arrows to see the next or previous mention in the list.

Classify a mention

For saved search results, Insights provides additional information about each mention to help you better understand how people are talking about your search term. See About Insights mention classification for more information.

You can change the sentiment, emotion, or location classification for any mention in your saved search results.

  1. Select the mention in the Mentions panel to open the Mention details window.
  2. Point to the attribute you want to change and select the value you want to assign from the list.

Insights updates the mention (and any associated metrics) and saves your changes, so you don’t need to update the mention when you open the search results again.

Add tags to a mention

You can assign tags to mentions in your saved search results to help categorize mentions for your organization.

  1. Select the mention in the Mentions panel to open the Mention details window.
  2. Select Add Tag and select a tag from the list, or enter the name of a new tag and select Create a new tag.
  3. Repeat step 2 to add more tags to the mention.
  4. If you want to remove any tags from a mention, select X in the tag to delete it. The tag is removed from this mention only.

Delete a mention

You can delete a mention from your saved search results to filter out irrelevant posts. Deleting a mention removes it from your saved search results permanently, and cannot be undone.

  1. Select the mention in the Mentions panel to open the Mention details window.
  2. Select Delete this mention, then select Delete to confirm the action.

Insights removes the mention from your search results.

Export mentions data

You can export mentions for your saved searches to an external file for sharing or further processing. For PDF files, you can choose the number of mentions to export (up to 500). For CSV files, Insights automatically exports up to 5000 mentions. In both cases, the mentions that are exported are based on the timeframe you select and any filters you apply to your search results.

  1. In the Mentions panel, select Export mentions.
  2. Choose a file format for your mentions data (PDF or CSV). If you're exporting to a PDF file, specify the number of mentions you want to export (up to 500).
  3. Select Export.

Insights exports the mentions and automatically downloads the file to your local drive.

Customize metric tiles

For saved searches, you can customize the Total Volume and Word Cloud tiles to show the information most relevant to you.

Point to the tile, select the gear icon , then make your changes in the Configure Tile panel.

For the Word Cloud tile, you can choose the following options:

  • the type of content you want to include in the word cloud
  • whether you want to see words based on their trending status or frequency
  • how to use color in the world cloud
  • the size of the word cloud

For the Total Volume tile, you can choose up to six metrics to display in the tile:

  • Total mentions
  • Total reach
  • Total impressions
  • Unique authors
  • Average followers
  • Retweet rate
