Use topics to categorize Amplify content

Audience: Admins

As an Amplify admin, you can categorize Amplify content by tagging it with open or closed topics. Topics are category names used to organize both content and Amplify users into groups.

Note: Topics have a maximum character count of 20.

Open topics are accessible to all Amplify users. Users can discover and subscribe to open topics to customize their own experience. To show up in Amplify, open topics need to have at least four pieces of content in them.

Closed topics are not visible in Amplify, but control the content that app users will see. Admins can subscribe users to closed topics in the user management stream to segment them into groups (see Manage Amplify users and roles). Anyone not subscribed to a closed topic will not see any of its content.

The Content feed also contains all content tagged for everyone in the organization. Users can see content from closed and open topics they are subscribed to in the mobile app's Home and Content feeds.

Posts tagged with both an open and closed topic will appear in Amplify only to users subscribed to the closed topic.

Admins first create topics and then subscribe users and teams to those topics.

Create a topic

  1. In Streams, select your Amplify stream, select More, and then select Topics.
  2. Select New topic +.
  3. Enter a topic name, select Open or Closed, and then select Save.

The lock icon appears on closed topics.

Select a topic in the list to see how many subscribers it has and how many posts have been tagged with it. Select CSV at the top to download a .csv file for the topic, containing a list of subscribers, their email addresses, and job titles.

In the Drafts, Scheduled, or Posted queues, filter Amplify content by topic or language with the Filter button.

Delete a topic

  1. In Streams, select your Amplify stream, select More, and then select Topics.
  2. Select a topic from the list, and then select Delete.
Important: Deleting the topic unsubscribes all users from it, and expires any posts belonging only to that topic. Posts belonging to other topics as well will remain in those topics and only have the deleted one removed.
  3. Click Yes, Delete to confirm.

Subscribe a user to a topic

  1. Select More and then select Members.
  2. Select the user from the user list, and then select Subscriptions.
  3. Select the topics to subscribe the user to, and then select Save.

Subscribe a team to a topic

  1. Select More, and then select Members & Teams.
  2. Select the Teams tab.
  3. Select a team from the list, and then select Subscriptions.
  4. Select the topics to subscribe the team to, and then select Save.
