Convert an Instagram Personal profile to a Business profile

Instagram offers three profile types: Personal, Business, and Creator. All Instagram accounts start off as Personal by default, but you can convert a Personal or Creator profile to a Business profile at any time.

Due to limitations from Instagram, you can only connect Business and Creator profiles to Hootsuite. Only Business profiles have access to all the Instagram functionality available in Hootsuite.

To get use all of Hootsuite's Instagram features, Meta requires that your Business profile be connected to a Facebook Page. You don't need to publish to your Facebook Page when you use Instagram, but the permissions required to manage your Instagram profile come from Facebook.

Before you begin

If you’re not sure what type of Instagram profile you have, open your account in Instagram, and access your settings. Depending on your profile type, you'll see one of the following options:

• Personal profiles - "Account types and tools"
• Creator profiles - "Creator tools and controls"
• Business profiles - "Business tools and controls"

To convert your Instagram profile, you need:

• A Facebook Page to connect your Instagram profile to. Only one Instagram profile can be connected to a Facebook Page and vice versa. If you need to create a new one, see the Facebook help article Create a Facebook Page.
• The right permissions (see the Facebook help article See your Facebook Page role or access):
  • Full or partial control of the Facebook Page.
  • Management access to the Page in your Business Manager account. See the Facebook help article Add People to Your Business Manager.

Convert your Instagram profile to a Business profile

1. In the Instagram mobile app, go to your profile, and then select the menu on the top right.
2. Select Settings, then Account, and then scroll to the bottom.
   • Personal account - Select Switch to professional account, and then choose Business.
   • Creator account - Select Switch account type, and then Switch to business account.
3. Follow Meta's instructions to Connect your Facebook Page and Instagram account.
