Manage Google Ads campaigns

You can manage your Google Ads campaign the campaign settings, ads, ad groups, and keywords in Hootsuite Ads.

Analyze your performance metrics by ad group, ad, or keyword, and then make changes to your active Google Ads search campaigns to optimize their performance. You can also edit targeting at the campaign level, including target network, language, location, and audience user lists.

Edit your Google Ads campaign settings

Edit any Google search campaign's settings, including bid strategy, start and end date, daily budget, status, URL options, and dynamic ads.

  1. On the Hootsuite Ads home page, select Your campaigns, select Select a campaign, and then select your Google Ads campaign from the list.
  2. Select the Dashboard tab, and then scroll to the Campaign Details and Current Target sections.

  3. Select the pencil icon beside any of the settings to make changes to the current values.
  4. Select Save.

Make changes to ads

You can edit, clone, or delete existing ads in a campaign, or add a new ad to an existing campaign.

Edit an ad

You can edit the content of an ad, clone it, or delete it from the campaign. However, you cannot edit dynamic search ads. To make changes to a dynamic search ad, clone it and then delete the original.

  1. Select the All Ads tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select Actions beside the ad you want to edit, and then select Edit from the list.
  3. Make changes to any of the text of your ad, and then select Save.

Clone an ad

  1. Select the All Ads tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select Actions beside the ad you want to clone, and then select Clone from the list.
  3. Complete the ad creative, and then select Save.

Delete an ad

  1. Select the All Ads tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select Actions beside the ad you want to delete, and then select Delete from the list.
  3. Select Yes, delete this ad to confirm your choice.

Add a new ad

You can add a new ad to any of your existing ad groups in a Google campaign.

  1. Select the Ad Groups tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select the ad group that you want to add the new ad to.
  3. Select New Ad, and then select the ad type: Search, Dynamic Search, or Call Only. You can only add dynamic search ads to dynamic search ad groups, but you can add Search and Call Only ads to standard ad groups.

  4. Complete the fields to build your new ad, as described in Create a Google Ads search campaign, and then select Create Ad.

Make changes to ad groups

You can add a new ad group to an existing campaign, or edit or delete an existing ad group.

Add a new ad group

You can add a completely new standard or dynamic search ad group to an active Google campaign.

  1. Select the Ad Groups tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select New Ad Group, and then select Standard or Dynamic. If Dynamic is grayed out, you need to enable dynamic search ads in the campaign’s settings.

  3. Complete the fields to build your new ad group, as described in Create a Google Ads search campaign, and then select Create Ad Group.

Edit an ad group

You can edit an existing ad group's status, settings (including name), ad rotation strategy, audience user lists, targeting settings, ad extensions or URL custom parameters.

  1. Select the Ad Groups tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select Actions beside the ad group you want to edit, and then select Edit from the list.
  3. Make the necessary changes to the ad group, and then select Save.

Delete an ad group

You can delete an ad group from an existing Google campaign.

  1. Select the Ad Groups tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select Actions beside the ad group you want to delete, and then select Delete from the list.
  3. Select Yes, delete this ad group to confirm your choice.

Make changes to keywords

You can add new keywords to an ad group, change the budget strategy or status of a keyword, or delete keywords.

Add new keywords to an ad group

You can add new keywords to an ad group so that your ads will surface if someone uses those keywords in a search.

  1. Select the Ad Groups tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select the name of the ad group from the list.
  3. Select Ads in the table heading, and then select Keywords from the list.

  4. Select New Keywords.
  5. Enter your new keywords, one word or phrase per line, and then select Create Keywords.

Pause keywords or manage keyword budget

You can pause any keyword in an ad group. You can also edit the maximum cost-per-click (CPC) at the keyword level for Google campaigns using the Manual or Enhanced CPC bid strategies.

  1. Select the Ad Groups tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select the name of the ad group from the list.
  3. Select Ads in the table heading, and then select Keywords from the list.

  4. Select Edit to change the keyword's status or Max. CPC.

Delete a keyword from an ad group

  1. Select the Ad Groups tab of your Google campaign.
  2. Select the name of the ad group from the list.
  3. Select Ads in the table heading, and then select Keywords from the list.

  4. Select Delete beside the keyword to remove it from the ad group.
